"I stumbled onto making whittled art as a result of first making a piece for a niece years ago. It led me to meet the artist, Adolph Vandertie, in his 96th year, whose life’s work gave me much inspiration. After exploring designs, tools, and materials, I made a few serious pieces. I have a book, Whittling and Wood Carving, first published in 1932, that has examples of whittled pieces that are more fanciful than mine."
