Code of Conduct
For Program Participants, Staff, And Volunteers
Purpose
To ensure a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment where all people are supported in their academic, artistic, professional, and personal development. The Arts for All Wisconsin (AFA) Code of Conduct for Program Participants, Staff, and Volunteers promotes inclusion, respect, and personal responsibility. These guidelines also apply to any family, friends, and support staff for any participant associated with any AFA program. This code is intended to ensure all who engage in AFA programs are treated equitably and have a clear understanding of behavioral expectations.
1. Respect and Dignity
- Treat all members of the AFA community with kindness, respect, and empathy.
- Respect the rights and differences of others, including their abilities, backgrounds, and perspectives.
- Refrain from any form of bullying, harassment, or discrimination.
- All employees and volunteers must sign and adhere to a Confidentiality Policy.
2. Responsibility and Accountability
- Follow AFA/host site rules, policies, and expectations, with reasonable accommodations as needed.
- Take responsibility for personal behavior and actions.
- Seek help when needed and use available support services appropriately.
- Communicate with appropriate staff prior to program start time if participant/staff/volunteer must be absent due to illness or another unforeseen matter
- Make arrangements to arrive and depart on time; this includes avoiding scheduling appointments during programs whenever possible
- Following all procedures for drop off, pick up, and proper identification protocols; repeated failure to abide by these procedures may result in being dismissed from the program
3. Academic and Artistic Integrity
- Engage in honest and ethical academic and artistic practices.
- Complete one’s own work unless collaboration is permitted or expected.
- Use assistive technology and accommodations responsibly and ethically.
- Give credit where it's due — never claim others' artistic work as your own.
4. Communication and Advocacy
- Communicate respectfully with peers, staff, and faculty.
- Advocate for personal needs in a respectful and constructive manner.
- Inform relevant staff of any issues impacting participation or learning.
5. Inclusion and Participation
- Actively participate in program activities to the best of one’s ability.
- Encourage inclusive practices and support peers in creating a positive learning environment.
- Respect physical and emotional boundaries.
6. Safety and Well-being
- Follow safety procedures and report unsafe behavior or conditions.
- Refrain from attending in-person programs with a fever or a contagious illness.
- Respect personal space, property, and privacy.
- Cooperate with staff and support personnel during emergencies or drills.
- Refrain from bringing weapons, drugs or alcohol on premises.
7. Use of Accommodations
- Use approved accommodations as agreed upon in Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) or 504 Plans as disclosed to Arts for All Wisconsin staff.
- Notify appropriate staff if accommodations are not meeting needs or if adjustments are required.
- Do not misuse services or supports.
Enforcement and Support
- Violations of the Code will be addressed fairly, considering individual needs and circumstances.
- Disciplinary actions will align with principles of restorative justice and positive behavioral supports.
